Seattle Day 15

Last night was a very late night.  Because of the game and the commotion of Mom and Dad leaving and us having Sage here we had forgotten to get Aidan his chemo.  Now, where the problem arises is that we have to give him his anti-nausea medicine an hour before we give him the Iressa.  So, he was finally given his Zophran at 8:50 which meant that we had to wait until 9:50 to give him the Iressa.  Even though this made it very late and was kind of fun.  We were able to play Disney Trivia while we waited.  It was the first time we have been able to play a board game as a family since the end of March.  We had some good laughs and of course Sage whooped our behinds.  I don't think there is a game out there that he can not beat.  I wish I had his mental power.
Because last night was so late, we were all very tired so when the alarm went off at seven we hit the button and did not wake up again until eight.  Now, in general eight is not too bad, but when we have to be at the U by  8:45 and we have an extra person to get ready, now we are in trouble.  As you can imagine people, I should say Mike and myself, were flying around the room trying to get ourselves and the kids ready and out the door.  Amazingly we walked into the recovery room at  exactly 8:45.  That is what we like to call skill :)
As you can tell even up to this point, is that today is definitely a Monday.  And everybody seemed to be in their Monday funk.  Now, nothing bad happened, just nothing seemed to go exactly how we would have liked it to.  Including Aidan waking up after only sleeping for about ten minutes after arriving in th recovery room.  This is never a good thing because theses are the days that he tends to have his freak outs.  Then to add to that, they were all out of pudding in the cafeteria.
I loathe MONDAYS!
Even so, we counted our blessings because Aidan was nowhere near as bad as he has been in past episodes and after much soothing we were able to leave around eleven in a fairly happy mood.  Then it was off to the house.  Once here we had some lunch downstairs and the boys played a little Nintendo and next thing we knew it was time for us to head over to Children's for Aidan's first appointment with his psychologist.
It seems they were also having a Monday there.  We went to the sixth floor to register and were told that first, we were on the wrong floor, and second, there was no record of us having an appointment anywhere.  After some clever detective work it was determined that we had just not been put into the system yet but if we headed down to the fourth floor to register it would be taken care of.  Once on the fourth floor we were able to register with no problems at which point they then sent us down to the third floor were the actual psychiatry department is located.
Our appointment today actual consisted of just Michael and myself meeting with the psychologist, Theresa.  Lucky we had Sage today because he was able to look after and keep Aidan entertained while Micheal and I spoke with Theresa by ourselves for a little over and hour.  It was determined that she felt we were doing all the right things and that were just going to tweak a couple things to help Aidan with his anger and better ways to express it besides violence.
Poor Sage, I don't think he had a clue what he was getting himself into this week.  He will probably be ready to go back to Mom and Dad's by Wednesday.
Back to RMH we go.  Tonight dinner was provided by the Side by Side Organization.  It was a great meal of teryiaki chicken over jasmine rice with a spinach and strawberry salad, egg roles, fruit, fortune cookies and a dessert bar.  After a day like today it is so wonderful to not have to worry about cooking or cleaning up.

Before I go I want to quickly make a note that Fridays have been set as "Why Not Aidan?" day. So, if you have a shirt wear yours on Friday and if you do not yet have one, get one and wear it!

Also, thank you to Lori and Jackson Chin.  Jackson for your amazing effort with your recycling drive and Lori for all the yummy goodies you send us each week in our care packages.

Also, thank you Spider Man for sending Aidan his amazing gifts.  He was thrilled and in awe that Spidey actually knew who he was and took the time to think of him.  Thank Spidey where ever you are!

Mostly, thank you to all of you who do and are doing such amazing things for our family.  Especially all of the prayers.  They are the most important thing that we could ask any of you to do.  So, please continue to pray for Aidan and Sage and tell everyone you know to please also do the same.  The truly make our lives better.  And as always you will all be in our prayers with many thanks.

"If God brings you to it, God will see you through it"

We are so glad that you will be all together this week. I'm sure the Mariner's game tonight will be lots of fun. We're glad you are able to go.

Andrew is sad that Sage won't be at baseball of Wed., though, because his team is playing the Astros. We'll cheer for your team for you, Sage, even though you are the competition

You are always in our prayers, day and night.

We also are glad you are having a lot of fun together as a family! Reading your entries brings back a lot of memories for us. One memory is of a little Beanie Baby type frog that Robert received as a gift very early in his treatment. We named the frog "Burkitt" (Robert had a type of non-Hodgkin's lymphoma named Burkitt's) and determined that Burkitt was a very tough critter. So we gave everyone in our family permission to be as mean as they wanted to be to Burkitt whenever they were feeling frustrated or mad. Burkitt got yelled at and thrown around a lot at first! Over time, however, we needed him less and, believe it or not, we can't recall what happened to him! Have a great rest of the week! Stephanie Bauman and Family
