Seattle Day 18

Radiation 12

Today was another tough wake up.  Not as bad as some others but still not enjoyable.  Also today we saw Dr. Rutter and Dr. Douglas (Radiation Doctors.)  Dr. Rutter was lucky enough to see Aidan when he was asleep, however Dr. Douglas was not as lucky and got to see Aidan being a pill.  Both gave us the a OK though saying that things were going well.  We asked about his hair loss and we were told that it would probably start falling out within the next week and that it usually comes out in clumps.  We have started talking to Aidan about it saying that it would be cool to look like a Marine and have a shaved head.  Aidan disagrees highly.  He said Daddy could have a bald head but not Mama, Sage, or Aidan.  We shall see how this goes over.
Yesterday we received a message on our house phone telling us that tickets had been donated for Thursday's afternoon Mariner's game. Of course Mike and the boys wanted to go but I told Mike that we really needed to relax on Thursday since we were going to be having a big weekend with all the family in town.  Then he told me that the tickets were for a Suite and begged to go.  After much urging, I agreed, but only if the tickets were indeed for a Suite.  As my luck goes, they were.  So today meant another Mariner's game.  Now, I am not complaining, never in my life have I gone to three Mariner's games in a week.  It is just that I worry about Aidan and how all the activities will affect him.
So, after radiation we went and grabbed something to eat since last time we ate at the game it cost us an arm and a leg.  Plus, we were hoping that if we fed the beast it would soothe him.  The plan worked out perfectly.  A little food and Aidan was in much better spirits, as were the rest of us.
After lunch it was on the road to the game.  Since the game was in the middle of the day the traffic was next to nothing and we were parked in the garage in a flash.
Once at the game we were able to go up to the sixth floor sky bridge that is exclusive to Suite ticket holder.  When you walk into the entry the whole place is carpeted and you are greeted by a woman standing behind a large desk with fresh flowers.  She then directed us in the direction of the Suite.  As soon as we all walked in our jaws dropped.  The boys of course began to open every cupboard and drawer and thoroughly inspected the entire place.  Our view was not as close to the action as it was on Tuesday but who is going to complain about having Suite tickets.
We had the Suite to ourselves until the middle of the first inning when four other boys from the house and their parents arrived.  It was nice to have some cheering partners since all the Suites around us were empty.  While there all the kids were treated like kings.  They were each given a shirt, backpack, hat, poster and baseball cards.  Each of them were smiling from ear to ear.
After the game we headed back to the elevator to get to our car and guess who gets on the elevator with us?  None other than Dave Neihouse.  Of course Aidan has no clue who he is but Sage and the rest of us do.  Mike's dad Ned said hello to Dave and told him who Aidan was and that he was going through radiation.  Dave then said hello and asked him how he was doing.  Of course Aidan ignored him completely and we had to answer for him.  Still, Sage and the adults thought it was pretty cool.
Once back at the house we had a message that we had a package downstairs.  When we opened it we were found a bunch of letters from students at Desert Hills Middle School in Kennewick.  First, it was just cool that they sent them but what is even cooler is that Desert Hills is the middle school I went to.  I was so excited to see that the kids took the time to write Aidan and learn about him.  Aidan thought it was great also and sat and listened very intently as we read each letter to him.  I was so touched by the letters that these kids wrote that I cried and had to call and read them all again to my parents.
Thank you kids for the wonderful letters.  Feel free to write anytime.
After that was a trip to the grocery store then home to make dinner, take meds, get cleaned up and put the kids to bed.  And now it is finally time for me to try and get some sleep.
Good Night.

Wow - 3 games in a week - that is just so awesome. My apologies - but I'm not sure who Dave is - but it sounds impressive. I think it is absolutely wonderful that you and the boys are getting this time and opportunity for some great outings. (I also understand and appreciate the concern of over stimulating Aidan - sick or not - its not a pretty picture for any youngster!) You all deserve to have these great times, they help to balance the difficult ones!

Mike and Tanya, I had no idea what was going on until I saw a poster of Aidan's here in Kennewick! I want to help. Please e-mail me or call 222-2725. Aidan is so lucky to have great parents like you. I remember the last time I was at your place, Aidan started choking on something and Tanya just about leaped off of a 6-foot ladder to save him. He was fine, but the crown molding immediately took a backseat and the fact that she was six feet off the ground meant little. God bless you four!
