I AM BACK!!!!!
Hello everyone. I have missed writing to you all for these last few weeks. I am still not completely over my illness, I am however, much better than where I was. Sadly, Aidan and Sage are also still not 100%, but since they are children they manage must better than this old lady does. I may only be thirty-two in years, but I feel as if I have lived the life of two or three thirty-two year olds. This whole thing has aged me in ways I didn't imagine.
So let's just dive back into this and let me tell you about our day today. It started off with a late wake up. Last night the boys were up until after midnight and Mike and I were up until three a.m doing laundry and cleaning. I awoke at 10:30 this morning very abruptly. I had a terrible nightmare that sat me straight up from a deep sleep. I was the first one up, but I decided to just lay there and hug Aidan for awhile while everyone slept. Not long after Mike woke up and then the boys. I think today we were pretending that we were beach bums without the beach because we just hung out in bed watching t.v. until about 11:00 when the boys saw a cooking show and decided that they were hungry. That was our cue that it was time to get up and get moving.
Speed was not with us this morning though, and it was approaching the noon hour when we received a phone call from Mike's little sis MaryLynne. She was next door at Metropolitan Market and she was calling to see what we were up to. We told we were about to head out the door to get something to eat and asked her to join us. This was an extra special treat since we don't usually get visitors during the week and because we had not seen her in about a month.
We all headed up north to Lynnwood and on the drive decided that we would eat at Denny's since the boys still wanted breakfast even though it was after noon. Lunch/Breakfast was so much fun. Those of you that don't know MaryLynne are missing out. She is one of the most genuine, loving, fun persons that I know. Time spent with her is never time wasted. We enjoyed each moment catching up and sharing laughs. Next thing we knew it was almost three and MaryLynne needed to be up at Emily's to take her to a doctor's appointment. So we quickly wrapped up our conversations and gave our love to eachother and she was gone.
Since we were out, we decided to go and try to find some jeans for Sage. This morning when we woke up it was very cool outside and the forecast was for only a high of 68. It was a long pants day. When Sage went into his drawer we quickly realized that he had grown and didn't have any long pants that fit him any longer however. Everything was too short and too small. So, we were about to embark on a shopping trip with a ten and four year old. We are very brave people indeed. Actually Sage is really the only one of us that is not into clothes shopping. Aidan thinks it is the best thing in the world. The problem with taking him shopping is that he likes to stop at every shoe store and every kids clothing store. Then, not only does he like to stop and look, but he likes to buy. So one of the kids is whining to leave and the other is whining to buy. Fun, fun, fun.
Now, those of you who do not know Aidan are not aware of this kid's great one liners and his ability to tell a great story that is no way based on facts. He has a very vivid imagination. For example, two weeks ago Mike and my dad were trying to get out the door to go to the casino. Aidan walks over to the door, opens it and says to Mike, "Dad. I think we need to step outside and have a little talk." We could hardly keep a straight face as Mike stepped into the hall with Aidan to be grilled about where he was going and when he would be back. The reason for telling you this is because we have become fairly accustomed to these conversations and have learned to respond with a straight face and respect. Otherwise his feelings get hurt. So today, Aidan, Sage, and myself are sitting on a bench and Aidan turns to me and says, "Mama. Member when I was a teenager?"
"Yes, I do," I respond.
Aidan: "Member when I was big like Sage? When I was ten?" "And I went to that big school? And I met that girl? And it was the first day of school? And I had that new backpack? And she was nice?"
Tanya: "Yep, I remember that."
And then the conversation ends and he is off on a new topic. The real part of the story comes later though.
After finishing up our very long shopping trip, mind you with no pants for Sage, we hopped back into the car and headed south. Of course, not long after entering the car we realize that it is eight and aside from the ice cream the boys had at the mall, we had not eaten since noon. Our destination changes and we are now headed for food. The boys wanted pasta so we decided to go to the Old Spaghetti Factory. The last time we were there I was pregnant with Aidan and Mike's best friend Jeff was the manager. Mind you, that would mean that Sage was five at the time. As we pull into the parking lot Sage says, "Hey, I remember this place. Uncle Jeff used to work here." Mike and I were very impressed with his memory of an event so long ago.
Aidan then pipes in with, "Hey Mom, "Member when we came here and J-Boy worked here?" Now where this kid gets the name J-Boy is a complete mystery to us, but the three of us just start cracking up. Not only have we never called Jeff "J-Boy" , but Aidan wasn't even born when the event took place.
We then head inside, get our table, order, eat and are now eating our very delicious Spumoni ice cream when I begin to tell Mike about the conversation Aidan and I had on the bench at the mall. With this, Aidan's eyes light up. He realizes that he once again has the opportunity to be in the spotlight and tell a story. The conversation proceeds like this:
Aidan: Yea. Member, it was at the big school and I was big? And that girl was at my class. I did my homework on my paper. And I wrote her name.
Mike: Did you get her phone number?
Aidan: Yep. And we went on a date. (eyes twinkling, big grin)
Everyone giggles, especially Sage.
Tanya: Where did you go on your date?
Aidan: To school.
Mike: Was it a dance?
Aidan: Yep. We danced there?
Mike: Did you shake your groove thang?
Aidan: Yes. (now whispering) And we kissed.
Everyone looses it, again, especially Sage
Mike: Where did you kiss?
Aidan very slowly and quietly points to his lips.
Now we are really having fun and we are off having side conversations.
Aidan: Now, just sit back, relax, and listen to my story.
Mike: Did you hug?
Aidan shrugs.
Mike: It's ok to hug.
Aidan: Yep, we hugged.
Tanya: What is her name?
Aidan: Um, let me think.
We all begin to provide names to which he tells us no to every one. Then finally.
Aidan: Her name is Aidan. A girl named Aidan.
Tanya: A girl named Aidan?
Aidan: Mama, a GIRL, named Aidan. Like me
All: Oh, ok
Tanya:What was she wearing?
Aidan: Um, a skirt. And date clothes.
Tanya: Oh, well what color is her hair?
Aidan: Gold
Tanya: Uh oh, he likes blonds. What color is her eyes?
Aidan: Blue
Tanya: Is her hair straight?
Aidan: No, it's curly
Tanya: Is it long or short?
Aidan: Short, um no it's long. And, member we were at school and we were big and she was my friend.
About this time we are outside walking to the car and the cold air and a shiny red car have distracted Aidan from his story. I am still cracking up over Aidan's story and his ability to have such an amazing imagination and to be so completely serious in his story telling. While the boys are piling in the car I call my parents to tell them about their grandson's story. We ended up talking to Dad during the entire thirty minute drive back to the room. The boys shared their stories of the day from the cool t.v. at the Sony store to the singing, joke telling candy maker, and the skateboards they were fantasizing about.
Back at the room we quickly get ready for bed and start to get medicines administered. As I am helping Aidan get ready for bed he says to me, " Mama, when I am an adult like Daddy, you don't use my razor ok?"
"When you are an adult?" I replied.
"Yea, when I am twenty-five and I am an adult you can't use my razor ok? Now let's shake on it."
I told him that was fine as long as he didn't use mine and we shook on it. He then repeated the same situation to Mike. To which Mike responded with, "as long as when you are an adult you don't ask to use my car. Wanna shake on it?" I quickly told Aidan not to shake on such a deal, but it was too late and they were shaking away.
The boys then snuggled into bed to watch "Forever Young" as I sat down to write to you. The movie is now over, I am still writing, and I can imagine that you have had quite enough for now so I am off to bed to join my three amazing boys in a beautiful nights sleep. May peace be with each of you.
Love,
Tanya
