Friday August 11
Today was a big day. Not only was Aidan's fund raiser today, but today was Mom and Dad's 33rd wedding anniversary. We had a very early start to the day to get to the tournament by 12:30 for the start of check in. Golfers are very punctual people. We were ten minutes late and over half of the teams had already checked in. We had a great turnout, much better than we had even expected. We ended up having 29 teams of four, five of the holes sponsored, and an incredible amount of raffle tickets sold. On top of all of that, the silent auction went very well. We even had media coverage from two of the local television stations.
The best part of the day though was how much fun the boys had. Sage was able to play on a four person team that included Mike and my brothers Lance and Bob. The team was sponsored by Lance's company, Mirage Pools. Sage had such a great time that he told my dad that he liked golf better than video games. That coming from Sage is major. Nothing usually beats video games. Aidan also had a blast. Ryan, one of the event coordinators, kept taking out in the golf cart to go meet the teams and to just cruise around. Aidan loved it.
We were lucky enough to have the most beautiful weather and a group of amazing people take part. We were touched by each of them and their contribution to Aidan. We were even surprised by a visit from the High Desert Road Riders, a motorcycle group that did a charity ride for Aidan and came to present us with a check and well wishes. I was lucky enough to have a little surprise of my own. My good friend Elizabeth Goodwin and her boys Andrew and Aidan came down to the club house to help out and to visit with me. It turned out to be a beautiful day indeed.
I can not express how humbled and blessed Mike, Sage, Aidan and I feel. Everyday a new blessing comes to us. A note of encouragement from a stranger, a visit from a dear friend, a donation to our son. No one would ever wish cancer upon their child or anyone else's, and yet, in a very strange way cancer has been a blessing in our lives. Already we have learned so much. So many lessons to take with us on our journey and to share with others. Thank you to all of you who have helped us so.
