Aidan Needs Your Prayers! - February 28, 2007

To all of Aidan’s Angels,

Aidan is currently scheduled for a very critical MRI on Friday of this week.  We are obviously hoping and praying that this MRI will confirm the doctor’s theory that Aidan’s tumor is experiencing some degree of necrosis and may be dying.  You can imagine the anticipation and uncertainty that we are all are experiencing, and this will not be relieved until we return and share the good news.

Aidan finds himself in a very exclusive and select group of kids that have had some degree of success against this horrifying cancer.  The researchers, doctors, and other medical staff have contributed what they can and have done an exceptional job.  But, our belief is that this fine group of folks has only assisted Aidan in reaching this point.  Beyond any shadow of a doubt, Aidan is where he is today because of the prayers of Aidan’s Angels and the multitudes of his other supporters.

We are now at a very crucial and critical time, and we know what it will take to put Aidan over the top.  We are requesting that all of Aidan’s Angels offer a very special prayer that this Friday will bring the confirmation we have all been praying for.  Our God has carried Aidan this far, and if we only ask, he will carry Aidan the rest of the way.

With heartfelt thanks for all your love, support, and prayers,

Aidan’s Family

    Tanya and Mike,
Today, Feb 28th, was the day that I had first learned Thomas had cancer one year ago. We just had another scare a few weeks back when the CT scan picked up some "minimal growth" area from Oct.

I was out of my mind as you could imagine until getting the PET scan "all clear for now" results a week later. It never leaves us does it ?? We can only take this one day at a time - right ??

Caz has been pretty sick from his chemo. Thomas sees him everyday when Caz picks him up from school. Caz has been too sick to go to school so far this year but drives over there to give a couple of kids a ride home every day. I have had lunch a few times with his mom Candy and she is also pretty stressed out with Caz's new high blood pressure diagnosis. They were planning on returning to Seattle this March to follow up his treatment plan with his surgery. He can't return to Seattle for his colon resection surgery until he stabilizes his b/p.

The good news is that tomorrow night at Anchorage's Providence Hospital, a bunch of us parents who had to relocate to Seattle for pediatric cancer treatment, are getting together to see how we can help the next group of parents transition from "here to there." There is a new focus group that is starting up with parents who are able to assist other parents transistion to Seattle when they get the awful news of a cancer diagnosis with their child. In Alaska there are between 25 - 40 new pediatric cancer diagnosis' every year and since we have one pediatric oncologist in the whole state... they usually have to go elsewhere for treatment.I had been asked to give my input into this focus group and intend to let everyone know what would actually make that transistion easier. Have the Zaugg family live across the hall from your family at the McDonald house will be # 1 on the list... : >
By being attatched to a group like this, I can still feel proactive with helping someone else who has a child with cancer. Who knows? I might even run into some of the other parents from the Seattle Ronald McDonald house !
Thomas continues to wear his red "WHY NOT AIDAN ?" wrist band every single day. ( He is very picky about wearing anything extra that might look different from any other teen BUT he will not take that wrist band off ! )

We think of your family with fond memories and wish you the absolute best Friday and always!
I'll be praying for all to go well on Friday with the scan.
    Much Love,
    Laurie

I just came across Aidan's web page. Know that my thoughts and prayers are with Aidan and will also pray for a miracle.

My daughter was diagnosed with a diffuse intrinsic pontine glioma on February 23, 2007. We are currently at St Jude where we will begin radiation treatment next week.

My wife and I have searched the internet for anyone who has defied the odds and beat this awful tumor. It sounds like Aidan may be one of those kids. Good luck with the MRI...we will be praying for Aidan.
